Under Milk Wood Auditions

‘Under Milk Wood’ Search for Voices

Dylan Thomas’s Play for Voices will be the subject of an upcoming performance project based at Weymouth’s Old Town Hall Heritage and Arts centre.

The project will be headed by Jackie Avery, an experienced Physical Theatre performer and teacher, with an aim to establish innovative, contemporary and thought provoking performance opportunities within the local community and beyond.

‘Under Milk Wood’, arguably Thomas’s most famous play is described as an orchestration of voices, sights and sounds that conjure up the dreams and waking hours of an imagined seaside village. The ‘dismays and rainbows’ of its inhabitants are played out within the cycle of one day. The larger-than-life characters engage the imagination and lead us to explore our own fears and desires.

The project will include original sound and video scapes by Thomas Hughes and Martin Hedley and a search is on for a six strong cast of actors (three male, three female) with relevant performance experience to join the creative team.

Auditions will take place on 27th march, 12 – 3 at The Old Town Hall, with rehearsals every Thursday eve at the Old Town hall (starting 22nd April) working towards performance dates at the end of September.
